SWF Seeking Grammarian

Recently, I have been contacted by some individuals interested in striking up some sort of friendship or relationship. What's my first instinct in this time and age? Google or Facebook search that individual. That's probably pretty common for someone my age. But I got to thinking about good grammar as an indicator of a potential relationship. I find myself cringing at misplaced modifiers, cowering at the improper use of "their," and screaming in anger at less-than-parallel sentence structure. Don't even get me started on misspellings, wrong word choices, or poor punctuation. To me, the ability of a person to convey themselves in written word (especially in an attempt to gain my interest) directly relates to their attractiveness and--perhaps more so--their relationship potential. Does anyone else feel this way?

A somewhat recent survey conducted by Kibin, a company that offers professional editing services, indicated that I am not alone in this. Apparently, 43% of online daters say that bad grammar is a turnoff. A smaller percentage say it couldn't matter less (my disdain for that phrase is better saved for another post). Here's an infographic they produced with their results:

It doesn't quite offer an suggestions on how to make a profile better, and instead seems to subtly imply that you purchase their services to obtain a life partner (who might be one of those 35% who finds good grammar sexy). However, I fully support the idea of hiring a professional to proofread for you--if you don't have a good friend to do so for you.

For me, bad grammar is definitely something that's made me turn my head the other way. I find it awkward as someone who values language, reading, and education (not to mention has a specialized degree focusing on publishing). What about those of you reading? Is bad grammar a turnoff? Caution flag?
